‘Chalk It Up!’ An Art Festival!

The Broken Arrow Arts and Humanities Council and The City of Broken Arrow will be presenting the 4th annual, “Chalk It Up!’ An Art Festival. The festival will begin on Friday night, September 25th from 7pm-12am and continue on Saturday, September 26th from 7am-7pm. This is a family event and is free and open to the public. It will take place on Main Street in Broken Arrow; directly in the middle of the Rose District!

This colorful and inspired event received the “Award of Excellence” from the State of Oklahoma Recreation and Parks Society for its first festival year, 2012. This award was scored on several specifics; including originality, funding sources, inter-agency cooperation and non-profit organization involvement.

Artists that register to compete will have a 10’ x 10’ sectioned-off space between Dallas and Broadway, on Main Street, to let their imaginations run wild. They have the opportunity to begin their creative masterpiece on Friday evening and complete the design Saturday during the main event.

Three different age groups; from 6 years of age to adult, will have an opportunity to compete in five different categories. The available categories are Masters, Animation, 3D, Original and Artist Choice. In addition to 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes for each of these previous mentioned categories, the competitors will have an opportunity to win Best of Show. The public will have an opportunity to vote for their favorite artist and declare a winner for the People’s Choice Award too. This makes a total of 17 winners possible!

The cost for an artist to register and compete is $30. Competing artists receive a festival T-shirt, chalk, water, lunch vouchers and gift bags from local Main Street business owners. Event judges, including the community for People’s Choice Award, will begin voting at 1p.m. Winners will be announced and prizes awarded soon after the judging is complete.

Local artists, live music and street performers will provide a unique atmosphere for the public to enjoy. More entertainers, vendors, artists and extended hours are available this year to improve and continue the trend of excellence.
